American Ski Racing Stars on Display at Vancouver.

American alpine ski racers are impressing the world as we reach mid-way through the Winter Games in Vancouver. Vonn, Mancuso, Miller, and Weibrecht are becoming household names in a country usually obsessed only with major league professional sports.

In a sport that awards medals based upon personal performance at high speed, measured in differences of only hundredths of a second, we can appreciate the odds against being on the top of your game with so many variables presented at every race. Weather, visibility, experience, personal conditioning, injuries and mind-set all play a critical role in a ski racer's performance.

Plagued with weather delays, spectacular falls, and stunning performances by competitors from many nations, these games may end up being the most rewarding for the US in terms of medal count in US Olympic history.

The following report shows the American winners in the venues completed to date in Alpine Skiing. Their performances make me proud that I'm an American and a lifelong skier.
