Ramping up for winter

Watching visitors leave the building carrying skis, I asked one couple if they got a good deal. The answer was a resounding yes.

In spite of 60-degree weather outside, enthusiasm was high, and the turn out for the Thursday evening opening was impressive. This was my first visit to the Ski & Snowboard Expo at the Bayside Expo Center in Boston held November 19th to the 22nd.

Spread over four days, this annual event is a precursor to the winter snowsports season for many in New England.

Over 160 exhibitors presented their wares and services ranging from ski and board equipment and accessories, resorts, to travel and tourism companies. Exhibitors were not limited to New England, as many resorts displayed their deals and presented their improvements for 2009-2010 from both coasts of Canada, and the American West.

There was plenty of action to boot. Freestyle aerial demonstrations by the Flying Ace All-stars, skateboard competition and BMX contests kept the young at heart entertained.

Olympic champions past and present, including Tommy Moe, Donna Weinbrecht, Doug Lewis and snowboard gold medalist Ross Powers were present to tell their experiences.
